Nijole Jovariene (Nijo Bronze) is a jewellery artist from Kaunas, Lithuania.
She graduated from Kaunas Applied Art School in 2015, specializing in metal arts and crafts, and has exhibited her work in several galleries in Kaunas and Berlin.
Nijole is particularly interested in an eco-friendly and sustainable fashion. Her statement jewellery pieces are often inspired by the Steampunk genre and Byzantine ornaments, combining recycled metal materials and various antique bronze objects. Nijole sees her creative process as ‘time-travelling’: it is a delicate experiment and an improvisation that brings ancient and archaic metal pieces to a new life. The artist believes that her jewellery attracts extravagant people who care about the environment and appreciate the timelessness of bronze and antiquity.
Artist’s Note:
Jewellery Collection ‘Bronze Brooch Birds Born’, 12 brooches.
Nijole Jovariene’s jewellery collection ‘Bronze Brooch Birds Born’ consists of twelve entirely hand-crafted pieces. Each brooch personifies a unique bird figure (to be worn for each month of a year).
The artist uses antique door and drawer handles, locks, old watch parts and various recycled scarp metal pieces. In this way, authentic archaic metal materials are brought back to a new life, a new aesthetic form.
As the artist is concerned with environmental issues, these bronze birds also spread a symbolic ecological idea: we should preserve the wildlife and protect our bird species from extinction by focusing on more sustainable living and making conscious ethical fashion choices.
